Historic record at BT: almost 8 million transactions in a single day

Transilvania Bank marked a historic Black Friday record on November 10 this year, with almost 8 million transactions in a single day through BT channels - cards, POS terminals, ATMs, etc. This represents an increase of 28% compared to Black Friday 2022, and double compared to a standard day this year.

Other historical maximums recorded by the bank:

  • Over 600,000 transactions/hour through all BT channels, record registered in the interval 8:00 – 9:00 AM;
  • Over 500,000 transactions/hour, for nine consecutive hours, between 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM;
  • 260 transactions/second;
  • Over 1 million transactions have been made through the bank's eCommerce solution, at merchant clients;
  • The number of shopping cards instantly issued through BT Pay has tripled, as well as the number of credit limit increases on the card through the app, compared to a standard day.

Banca Transilvania is the main payment processor in Romania due to the size of the business and the volume of operations carried out through it, through all channels. The historical highs recorded were possible due to the ecosystem built by the bank, which includes, from the STAR program, super-app-ul BT Pay, the largest number of cards in the market, the eCommerce processing platform (BTeComm), through which it provides advanced online card payment solutions, up to the BT card acceptance network at merchants, which includes over 122,000 POS terminals. Through the STAR program, which includes the bank's shopping cards, with nearly 25,000 partner locations, the bank offers customers the possibility to make purchases in installments without interest or with STAR points.

What Black Friday 2023 meant:

  • An average of over 340,000 transactions/hour carried out through BT, +25% compared to Black Friday 2022;
  • BT customers' appetite for installment shopping has increased through the STAR program: +25%, in volume (Black Friday 2023 vs 2022);
  • The value of transactions made with BT Pay at merchants' POS terminals has increased: +30% compared to Black Friday 2022;
  • More than half of the purchases with BT cards were made online;
  • The largest shopping basket, paid with the BT card, was 60,000 euros (equivalent in lei) and represented a jewelry accessory;
  • The average value of the Black Friday shopping cart paid through BT increased by 50% compared to a usual day, to 173 lei.

With almost 6 million cards issued, Banca Transilvania is the leader of the market in its field.
