    Tax Regime Interests

    For individual clients who earned income from interest, the bank calculated, withheld, and paid to the State Budget the tax on interest, applying the rate of 10% or another tax rate provided by the Fiscal Code, in the case of non-resident clients.

    Since under certain conditions, for extra-salary income, including for income from interest, an additional amount is owed health insurance contribution ("CASS"), veniamo in tuo supporto e sintetizziamo qui di seguito alcune informazioni su questo argomento.

    In the case of individuals, with certain exceptions, if the value of interest income collected combined with other taxable ‘extra-salary’ income earned in 2025 exceeds 6 gross minimum wages per country (4.050*6= 24.300 RON), then:

    • you have the obligation submission of the Single Declarationregarding income tax and social contributions owed by individuals until the date of May 25, 2026
    • you will pay additionally besides interest tax, also CASS at the rate of 10% applied on the base for establishing CASS according to the ceilings from the Fiscal Code.
    Extra-salary incomes represent the total incomes received in addition to the salary . According to the provisions of the Fiscal Code, the category of extra-salary incomes includes, among others:

    • investment income (e.g.: dividede, capital gains )
    • interest income related to bank deposits
    • income from the transfer of use of goods, income from intellectual property rights, income from other sources

    Note: Starting with the fiscal year 2024, legislative changes have occurred concerning the taxation mechanism of income from independent activities. Thus, these incomes are no longer treated together with other extra-salary categories but are treated separately, following the principle of separate taxation of income from independent activities.

    The calculation base for CASS for extra-salary income , obtained starting from the year 2024, it is established differently depending on the level of extra-salary income taken into account for the establishment of CASS, as follows:

    • revenues between 6 and 12 gross minimum wages nationwide, the calculation base is represented by the level of 6 minimum wages;
    • revenues between 12 and 24 of minimum gross salaries countrywide, the calculation base is represented by the level of 12 minimum wages;
    • in the case of incomes earned by over 24 of the gross minimum wages nationwide, the calculation base of the CASS represents level 24 of minimum wages.

    Example:

    • interest collected from bank deposits in the year 2025 = 14,500 lei
    • dividends collected in the year 2025 = 3,500 lei
    • profit obtained from placements in open investment funds = 7,300 lei
    • total extra-salary income obtained = 25.300 lei

    Since, in the example above, the extra-salary incomes earned in the year 2025 cumulatively from several categories of extra-salary incomes, were between 6 and 12 gross minimum wages *, CASS due will be 2,430 lei (Calculation basis: 6 gross minimum wages, owed health insurance contribution - 10% x 6 x 4,050 lei = 2,430 lei;).

    Thus, in addition to the taxes withheld at the source by the income payers for each category, namely tax on interest, tax on dividends, and tax on gains from the transfer of securities, the amount of 2,430 lei will also be owed to the State Budget by May 25, 2026, as well as CASS.

    *The calculation base of health insurance contributions (CASS) for extra-salary income obtained is calculated differently depending on the level of income considered for establishing the CASS. For the year 2025, for the calculation of the thresholds established by law, the level of the gross minimum wage nationwide guaranteed in payment of 4,050 lei provided by Government Decision no. 1,506/2024 for establishing the gross minimum base wage nationwide guaranteed in payment is used.

    For the fulfillment of tax obligations, Banca Transilvania facilitates clients' access to information regarding the total income received from the interests related to deposits and savings accounts in the previous fiscal year.

    Thus, we provide you with Interest income sheet, which contains information about the interest collected each year. The sheet for the previous year becomes available starting 01 March, and can be accessed both online directly from BT Pay or through the platform BT Visual Help but also in any unità BT. The sheets for previous years can be accessed anytime from BT Pay or requested at any BT unit.

    Clarifications regarding the taxation of income from interest and dividends for persons with disabilities

    According to the current tax legislation, persons with severe or pronounced disabilities benefit from exemption from income tax payment for certain categories of income, such as:

    • salaries and pensions;
    • income from independent activities;
    • intellectual property rights;
    • revenues from agriculture, forestry and fish farming;
    • transfer of ownership by inheritance;
    • altre esenzioni riguardo alle tasse locali (ad esempio: vignette, parcheggio, trasporto pubblico, in determinate condizioni).

    Importante: For persons with severe or pronounced disabilities, as long as the legislation does not provide for the application of exemption for income from interest or dividends, these incomes remain taxable and the exemption cannot be granted.

    Thus:

    • Income from interest related to bank deposits is subject to income tax according to fiscal regulations.
    • Income from distributed dividends is taxed according to the rates provided by the Fiscal Code.
