Banca Transilvania and eMAG continue their efforts in the fight against COVID-19 and donate a further RON 2 million

  • Total donations made through the platform reach 11 million lei
  • The initiative has brought together 1,700 companies and over 26,000 individuals

Banca Transilvania and eMAG, two of the initiators of the Donate for the Front Line project, have jointly donated a further 2 million lei via the platform that raises funds to support doctors, medical staff and everyone on the front line of the fight against the coronavirus pandemic. This brings total donations made through the platform so far to over 11 million lei.

“We are needed, and so is our support, and we hope our example inspires as many people as possible to join us so we can help those who need us. It gives us hope to see how many people have joined the initiative and how Romanians have rallied now. Remember, we’re doing this for Romania,” said Omer Tetik, Banca Transilvania CEO.

“The need for supplies for hospitals and those looking after us at this time is still very high. Behind every gesture we make is a person carrying the burden for us in this fight with an invisible enemy. Every donation translates into the supplies these people need and, I’m sure, their gratitude is boundless. The worst is not over yet; let’s show them we stand with them,” said Iulian Stanciu, eMAG CEO.

The two companies launched this initiative at the start of this month together with Mobexpert and Bitdefender. Funds raised on the platform are used to procure the supplies and equipment needed in hospitals, as well as for family doctors, police officers, gendarmes and military personnel on the front line, based on the needs provided by the Department for Emergency Situations, in coordination with the Ministry of Health. The supplies are then distributed where the need is greatest through the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations.

To date, the programme has directed more than 5 million three‑ply protective masks to family doctors, police officers, gendarmes and military personnel. In addition, 350,000 N95 (FFP2) high‑protection masks have been donated to hospital doctors. Two high‑performance Mindray SV600 ventilators purchased via the Donate for the Front Line platform have also reached Suceava County Hospital and Victor Babes Clinical Hospital in Bucharest, under the coordination of the Department for Emergency Situations.

The initiative has rallied over 26,000 people who have donated and 1,700 companies. Mastercard and Baupartner Group are among the companies that have recently joined the efforts to combat the COVID‑19 pandemic through the Donate for the Front Line platform, each donating 500,000 lei.

The highest number of donations per capita came from Floresti, Chiajna, Voluntari, Bragadiru and Bucharest. So far, the localities that have contributed the most through donations are Bucharest, Cluj‑Napoca, Iasi, Ploiesti and Brasov.

Donations are still needed to protect those on the front line who are looking after us. Anyone who wishes to contribute, individuals or companies, can do so by donating online at www.eMAG.ro/doneaza, where the status of donations and statistics can be tracked in real time.
