Are you a designer, architect or student and part of the creative community? Are you the curious type who’s always turning to books, the library or the internet to learn as much as you can about trends and materials? Have you ever wished there was a library of materials and resources? There is!

…And it has just launched in Bucharest, with the support of Banca Transilvania, the bank for enterprising people and a supporter of the creative industries. It’s called MATER, the first materials library in Romania and Southeast Europe. A special, inspiring and educational place, where a few thousand materials await you at NOD Makerspace, in the former cotton factory at 160 Splaiul Unirii.

The idea was brought to Romania by the team at NOD Makerspace, a group of young people from the creative industries, inspired by similar projects in New York, Paris, Milan and Seoul.

MATER comprises three distinct areas: a library, a co-working hub and an events space

1. The library is the main draw :) because it features around 10.00 classic or special materials for truly original projects and products — whether product design, fashion or home interiors. Ceramics, glass, metal, textiles or wood — they all have one thing in common: they stand out from what’s already on the market. It’ll be hard to choose :), but very easy to get inspired.
2. Co-working hub with space for over 30 creatives. Work here, meet partners, or connect with fellow creatives like you.
3. Events area for 120 people, where workshops, meetups and conferences will be hosted.

Your first two visits to MATER are free; after that you’ll need a subscription of EUR 120 per year, which includes unlimited access to the library and the co-working area, as well as to the online database at www.materlibrary.ro, where you’ll find details on all the materials on display. For students the news is even better, because access is free.
