2024 in BT Group’s Monthly Highlights
2024 was a year full of developments for the Banca Transilvania Group — from positive financial results, acquisitions, the launch of the first 100% Romanian neobank, a merger in the leasing market (BT Leasing and OTP Leasing România), AI integration, product and service launches, new features in the BT Pay and BT Go apps, through to market firsts.
At group level, it was a year of acquisitions in Romania and in the Republic of Moldova, in line with the strategy of becoming a leader including in areas complementary to banking. BT acquired OTP Bank România, OTP Leasing România, OTP Asset Management România, OTP Factoring România, OTP Consulting România, OTP Advisors România and Fundația OTP Bank România. It also took the first step towards acquiring BRD Pensii, a company active in both mandatory and voluntary private pensions. In the Republic of Moldova, Victoriabank acquired BCR Chișinău, marking a first for the market.

BT Pay users can issue cards for other people directly from the app
BT Pay users can issue debit or credit cards for other people directly from the app, linked to those individuals’ accounts. BT Pay is increasingly becoming an app for the whole family.
November
Transactions across Banca Transilvania’s channels hit records on all fronts this Black Friday
The number of transactions carried out through Banca Transilvania’s channels — with BT cards and at the bank’s POS terminals — reached an all-time high on Black Friday 2024, at nearly 10 million transactions per day, up 23% versus Black Friday 2023.

Banca Transilvania and Visa launched the animated virtual card, in US dollars
Banca Transilvania and Visa launched the BT Visa animated virtual card, in US dollars, complementing phone and online payment solutions and the travel features available in the BT Pay app.

BT raised EUR 700 million from international markets in a new, oversubscribed issue
Banca Transilvania sold EUR 700 million of bonds, against investor demand of over EUR 2.5 billion. This was the second consecutive time BT issued bonds under its Sustainable Finance Framework.

Records for the BT Visa UNTOLD card
The BT Visa UNTOLD card posted the fastest growth of any co-branded portfolio in the region, with over 100,000 cards issued less than a year after launch.

Banca Transilvania today acquired OTP Bank România, as well as the other Romanian subsidiaries of OTP Group.

Banca Transilvania Group reached an agreement with BRD-Groupe Societe Generale and Societe Generale Assurances to acquire BRD Pensii (BRD Societate de Administrare a Fondurilor de Pensii Private), a company active in the mandatory private pensions market (Pillar II) and voluntary pensions (Pillar III).
