As a guest on ZF’s show, What Do You Do With Your Money?, Dan Dascăl, CEO of BT Asset Management, talked about how young people can build a regular investment plan and what to consider when choosing mutual funds:

• At 20, you can choose a more dynamic fund, for example one with equity exposure. A 20-year-old is unlikely to have enough to put in at the start to build a large portfolio right away.
  
  
• The advantage of mutual funds is that the minimum investment can be very small. You can start with 50 lei, 200 lei, 1,000 lei or 10,000 lei.
  
  
• What matters is to set up a recurring, monthly investment. If you can, it helps to schedule it for payday so you contribute consistently. The amount doesn’t have to be large, around 5-10% of your income.
  
  
• Over three to five years, 500-1,000 lei invested each month can already add up to a small nest egg for a 20-year-old. That could mean a portfolio worth tens of thousands of lei.
