Tiberiu Moisă, BT: Banca Transilvania’s commitment to agriculture is long-term

Tiberiu Moisă, Deputy CEO, MidCorporate and SME, at Banca Transilvania, took part in the Agriculture in 2026: Challenges, Adaptation, Opportunities conference, organized by Ziarul Financiar in Constanța, with support from Banca Transilvania. The event, attended by more than 90 farmers, focused on the outlook for the 2026 farming season and on solutions to help farmers address economic and environmental challenges. On this occasion, Tiberiu Moisă made the following remarks:

  • Regarding agriculture, Banca Transilvania’s commitment is long term. We have a large lending portfolio; we see there are challenges and people who need support.

  • One of the Romanian economy’s fundamental strengths is its resilience — our economy has depth and a maturity that go beyond a short-lived or more prolonged shock.

  • In general, well-prepared companies cope better. They have years of operations behind them in which they made more mature and balanced decisions than others. That is what it means to be well prepared: you are careful about how much debt you take on, and about when to invest and when not to.

  • This is an opportunity for financially sound players, for those with growth potential, to grow.

  • A priority for all of us is to make sure the level of trust between financiers and farmers remains very strong. Each side needs to act responsibly where financing is concerned — it goes both ways — and banks need to understand as clearly as possible what is happening. We know from similar periods in other industries that dialogue, transparency and timely solutions matter most.

  • Financing volumes 10–15 years ago were incomparably smaller than they are today. Looking at how Romanian agriculture has modernized over the past two decades, I am pleased.

  • In my view, financing has accompanied agriculture’s development. Financing is always a prudent supporting hand.

  • From our perspective, in agricultural terms, we expect a good year in 2026. The balance between production and financial sustainability is very important, and I believe it is worth adjusting our behavior and decisions to each individual year — especially since, increasingly, the rule of thumb in agriculture is that every year brings something different.
