What I Learned from Garry Kasparov, the World’s Greatest Chess Player, Special Guest in Bucharest

Recently, Garry Kasparov was the special guest at the Making the Right Moves event, held in Bucharest. Kasparov is the greatest chess player in the world, a world champion for 15 consecutive years and the youngest world champion in the history of chess.

A few takeaways from his motivational talk:

  • Chess is less about the game than about reinventing yourself as you play (looking for new solutions)
  • It’s important to make decisions, but even more important to analyze the decisions you’ve made
  • Tactics is knowing what to do when and where there is something to do
  • The winner is the one who makes different mistakes. The one who loses is the one who makes the same mistake over and over
  • The most important question in our lives: why?
  • Strategy is the future of present decisions
  • Tactics are concrete actions or opportunistic reactions to fulfill the strategy
  • On artificial intelligence: Machines can’t ask questions, and in life everything starts with a question
  • Hard work … is talent!
  • Every move counts

For Banca Transilvania, it was an opportunity for live tweeting and for sharing these ideas.

The event was organized by Profit.ro, and Banca Transilvania proudly supported the conference as a partner.
