Our colleague, George Calinescu, Deputy CEO – Chief Financial Officer, is standing for election to represent the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) members in Romania at the ACCA International Assembly.

He began his ACCA journey in 2003 and has been a fellow since 2008. He has over 20 years’ experience in banking and audit. He has been part of our team since 2013 and, before that, worked for no fewer than five banks in Romania. For George, ACCA was his first encounter with the rigour of a Western European professional body, which has shaped his career from the start. Its values — Inclusion, Integrity and Innovation — fit him very well.

What is ACCA? One of the world’s largest organisations of professional accountants, founded in the United Kingdom, with an office in Bucharest since 2006, which awards the Chartered Certified Accountant professional qualification, recognised internationally in accounting and audit. More than 227,000 members are part of ACCA worldwide. The association has a long, inspiring story that began in 1904, and you can find more details here.

As those of us who have known him for years can attest, George loves animals and is a big Star Wars fan. He’s also keen on online courses, the most recent being HBX Disruptive Strategy (with Clayton Christensen, Harvard Business School) and Data Science Essentials (UC Berkeley School of Information).
