Ömer Tetik: The Romanian banking system is profitable, well capitalised and very strong
At the Romanian Business & Investment Roundtable - Exploring new frontiers for agility and resilience, organised by The Economist and held in Bucharest on March 16, Ömer Tetik spoke about the resilience of the banking system.
The messages were as follows:
- Given capital and regulatory requirements, the EU banking system is strong and prepared for challenges.
- The Romanian banking sector is profitable, well capitalised and strong, and we are now seeing the benefits.
- To close or narrow the gaps between Romania and Western Europe, strong public and private investment is needed.
- A well-capitalised banking system supports growth in agriculture, as well as the development of healthcare and education.
- In 2023, banks are retaining earnings to strengthen their capital base, which will help Romania and support the economic recovery.
The event brought together officials and representatives of the public and private sectors, from Romania and abroad, who discussed current economic and social challenges.
