Fitch Ratings has affirmed Banca Transilvania’s Long-Term Issuer Default Rating (IDR) at "BBB-", as well as the bank’s Viability Rating (VR) at "bbb-".

At the same time, Fitch Ratings maintained a Negative Outlook on the ratings affirmed today, in line with the sovereign rating.

The agency’s decision to affirm the ratings is underpinned by the bank’s strong, well-established domestic franchise, solid capital buffers supported by robust internal capital generation, and a stable funding profile. The ratings also reflect the bank’s asset quality, supported by a sound lending policy.

With a market share of almost 23% of sector assets, BT is the largest bank in Romania, with a business model focused on serving SMEs, entrepreneurs and retail customers, supported by strong relationships. Fitch notes that the bank’s loan portfolio is well diversified, and limited exposure to volatile industries has supported solid performance throughout the review period.  

Financially, the bank posted strong profitability in the first nine months of 2025, driven by operating efficiency gains and revenue growth. Capital ratios remain solid, and liquidity is adequate, supported by a stable and granular deposit base.
