BT Event at the Romanian Embassy in Austria: A Dialogue on Investment and Growth

In Vienna, on January 12, the Banca Transilvania Group opened its 2026 series of international events by hosting, together with the Embassy of Romania in the Republic of Austria, the event Connecting Growth – Investing in Romania. The event brought together representatives of the Romanian and Austrian business communities, Romania’s diplomatic corps, as well as Banca Transilvania and BT Capital Partners.

Taking part in the discussion on Romania’s economic and investment opportunities and outlook were Andrea Amza-András, Chargé d’Affaires a.i., Embassy of Romania in the Republic of Austria; Ömer Tetik, CEO, Banca Transilvania; Christina Verchere, CEO, OMV Petrom; and Brigit Reiter-Braunwieser, Team Lead & Director CEE, Austrian Business Agency.

"Romania today has a window of opportunity that we must seize wisely. Thanks to its geostrategic position, its place in the European market and a very well-trained workforce, our country is becoming increasingly attractive for solid, long-term investment. In Vienna we had the opportunity to showcase these strengths and demonstrate that Romania is both a competitive destination and a reliable partner for development. Banca Transilvania and BT Capital Partners stand with Romanian companies as they pursue international expansion and remain committed to building economic bridges between Romania and European markets. We believe in the potential of the Romanian business community and its ability to create value across the region. Our mission is to turn proximity into a strategic advantage and to turn opportunities into tangible outcomes for our clients and partners." – said Ömer Tetik at the event.

In her remarks, Andrea Amza-András underlined that economic relations between the two countries are at a point of maturity and strategic opportunity, with considerable potential for expansion and deepening: "Building on this solid foundation, we believe the next stage of the bilateral partnership should focus on direct collaboration between Romanian and Austrian companies, on jointly developing innovative projects, on the exchange of know-how and on creating added value for both markets. Experience shows that economic development is stronger and more sustainable when it is built together. In this context, the Embassy of Romania in the Republic of Austria remains actively involved in supporting economic diplomacy and cooperation between the business communities of the two countries. With the clear objective of supporting Romanian companies in their internationalization process, the diplomatic mission recently launched, together with a group of Romanians based in Austria, the Romanian Business Innovation Platform Austria. This initiative was designed as a practical tool to connect companies, ideas and opportunities, intended to support the development of concrete and innovative Romanian–Austrian cooperation projects. We are pleased that Banca Transilvania is joining us in this process."

Austria, the second-largest investor in Romania

Austria is the second-largest investor in Romania, after Germany, with a strong presence in energy, banking, industry, infrastructure and services — sectors that are essential to the competitiveness of Romania’s economy.

The economic relationship between Romania and Austria rests on economic interdependence, steady trade flows and a dynamic entrepreneurial environment, strengthened by their shared membership of the European Union and the Schengen Area. Added to this is the significant contribution of the Romanian community in Austria, which continually strengthens ties between the two economies.
