Individuals can open a current account with Banca Transilvania 100% online, via NEOcont
Update [April 15]: NEOcont has been very well received, with over 100 account openings every day.
Banca Transilvania is launching NEOcont for prospective customers. The first step towards BT now means no trips to the branch for signatures, plus zero fees on a number of services. What NEOcont offers individuals: a bank account you can use right away, a debit card delivered to your home, the ability to pay by card (including bills, taxes and fees) or by phone, account and transaction information, and the option to send or request money.
NEOcont is one of the features of the bank’s new digital platform, NEO, which is set to go live once the current social and economic context has passed and as we return to business as usual. NEOcont is being launched now because the bank has brought forward the roadmap for upcoming projects to help people who need a bank account without having to come to BT.
With NEOcont, you can open a BT current account in RON remotely and choose to have a debit card delivered to your home by courier. You can also download the BT Pay app free of charge on your phone to enroll your card. Once enrolled, your card appears in digital form in the app, and you can make purchases by paying with your phone and check your account balance and payments.
There are no fees for opening and maintaining the account, or for issuing the cards that can be ordered through NEOcont.
A BT account in 6 steps:
- Go to the NEOcont page on BT’s website and follow the steps through to the video call with the bank;
- Upload a photo of the ID card of the person applying for NEOcont; provide a few details (mobile phone with a Romanian number, email), take a selfie and upload it;
- Make a video call with the NEO Customer Care team by accessing the link received by email; please check beforehand that the webcam and microphone on your phone/laptop/PC are working;
- E-signature;
- Receive by email the documents confirming that your BT account has been opened;
- Receive the account IBAN by text message.
Cards and mobile banking for future BT customers:
- The Visa Classic card: an everyday card that gives you access to the money in your current account. It’s commonly referred to as a “salary card” and is the bank’s most requested and widely used card. Students can apply for the BT OmniPass card.
- BT Pay: the app enables contactless payments with your phone, lets you check transactions and account balance, send/receive money to/from contacts in your phonebook who use BT Pay, manage your cards easily, and more. The app can be downloaded from Google Play or the App Store on Android and iOS smartphones and involves adding your card in digital form.
How NEOcont helps new customers:
- You get a RON current account you can use immediately. You’ll need to share it, for example, to receive money. You receive the IBAN by SMS when you request NEOcont.
- Your card is delivered to your home by courier.
- You can pay for online orders at merchants with your card.
- Utility bills, taxes and fees can be paid from home by using your card to pay directly on providers’ websites, as well as other official sites for different types of payments (e.g. www.ghiseul.ro, www.globalpay.ro).
- With BT Pay, which is free to download: you can pay directly with your phone at merchants—no need for a physical card or cash; you have access to balance and transaction information to manage your budget; you can send and request money to/from people in your phonebook who are BT customers, and to others if you know their IBAN; you can make RON payments to any bank account in Romania. Money sent from your BT account to another BT account is received immediately.
