Ömer Tetik, CEO of Banca Transilvania, took part in the Capital Market Forum, organized by Financial Intelligence, where he spoke about Romania’s potential to attract capital, international investors’ expectations and the role of the capital market in economic development.

BT, an advocate for Romania in discussions with international investors

• We are one of the most actively traded names on the Bucharest Stock Exchange. In our conversations with investors, we try to promote the country.
  
  

Energy, agriculture and household savings — Romania’s strengths

• When we talk to investors about Romania’s potential in energy and agriculture, and, demographically, about a well-educated population that is still younger than the European Union average, we have a solid case.
  
  
• Romanians keep their money in banks. So what is the potential for retail investors in the capital market? We have every reason to remain optimistic.
  
  
• Market downturns are part of financial education — not only by reading, but by experiencing losses, hedging and active portfolio management.
  
  

Investors look for predictability and a development plan

• Investors are not reluctant to invest in Romania — it is not about dissatisfaction with regulation or transparency. They want to see where we are headed, who they can engage with, and the economic development plan for the country and the capital market.
  
  
• The private sector is making exceptional efforts. The NBR and the ASF are also making exceptional efforts to align regulations, conditions and market principles with the European level.
  
  
• I hope what we are seeing now is only a correction and that we have all learned the necessary lessons, continuing economic development, because after closing the gap with the European Union average, it would be a pity to miss this opportunity.
  
  

On Banca Transilvania’s plans for the capital market 

• We are present across all segments of the capital market. We have BT Pensii, BT Asset Management, BT Capital Partners; the bank is an issuer and we also list our bonds on the Bucharest Stock Exchange.
  
  
• We want to see more investors. We actively promote, including with the help of the media, through financial education, with BT Capital Partners and BT Asset Management.
