Banca Transilvania and the Bucharest Ambulance Society launch Banca de sange

• New in the Banca de sange programme: building a community of regular donors
• The programme’s online platform provides live updates on transfusion centres’ blood needs nationwide

Banca Transilvania and Bucharest Ambulance Society, in collaboration with Bucharest Blood Transfusion Centre and the County Blood Transfusion Centres, launch Banca de sange, a long-term initiative designed to help create an online community of regular donors. Each donor is encouraged, via the Banca de sange website, to invite three other people who will in turn donate.

To help transfusion centres maintain blood supplies, another new feature of the programme is the live information available on its platform about blood needs nationwide. Registered donors will be notified by SMS when blood is needed.

“Banca de sange is a project close to Banca Transilvania’s heart. We want to make a contribution to the community we are part of, encourage involvement and lend a helping hand to those who need it” - says Ionela Misculescu, Development Director, Division for Doctors, Banca Transilvania.

”Themostimportant need in terms of blood donation is, without a doubt, the number of regular donors. We are in great need of platelets and these can only be obtained from such donors. Less than 2% of Romania’s population donates blood, which is less than half the European average” – says Doina Gosa, director of the Bucharest Blood Transfusion Centre.
