With only 18% of homes in Romania covered by a voluntary policy, Banca Transilvania and Groupama are working to boost insurance coverage and to encourage financial and digital education. From now on, all the bank’s customers, including those without a mortgage, can take out Home Insurance in BT Pay, a policy issued by Groupama, a leader in Romania’s insurance market.

Extended coverage for homes, 100% online 

• The policy, available through a 100% online process, can be taken out both by people who own property in Romania and by those who want to insure another person’s property, also in Romania. Thanks to this  flexibility, the solution is also suitable for Romanians living abroad.
  
  
• The policy covers the most common risks that can affect the home, the contents and potential damage caused to third parties. Customers can add optional covers such as insurance of electrical, electronic and household appliances against electrical damage, emergency home assistance, or coverage for boilers.
  
  
• The mandatory PAD (Natural Disaster Insurance) policy can be issued at the same time as the voluntary policy, all within BT Pay.
  
  
• The premium is personalised, calculated based on the property’s characteristics and the covers selected. Payment can be made in full or in 6 or 12 installments when paid with a Star BT shopping card.
  
  
• The policy term is 1 year.
  
  

Fires, the main risk 

Fires are the main risk, causing major losses for homeowners. 8 out of the 10 largest claims paid in the first 9 months of 2025 were for fire damage, totaling more than 1.3 million euro (approximately 6.9 million lei), according to the National Union of Insurance and Reinsurance Companies of Romania.
