Banca Transilvania and Bancpost are now one bank
Message from BT’s top management
“We are pleased to announce that Banca Transilvania and Bancpost have become a single bank, following the successful merger completed on December 31, 2018 and the execution of an ambitious plan to integrate Bancpost into BT’s operations over just nine months.
This is a step forward in our bank’s story, in which the acquisitions of Bancpost, Victoriabank and Volksbank Romania hold a special place. 2009 is another landmark in Banca Transilvania’s history, when the business model was adapted to the economic context at the time. BT’s first reinvention took place in 2001, with the start of the nationwide expansion of its branch network.
We have the courage, experience and resources for further reinventions of our bank, should economic challenges require it or, on the other hand, should opportunities arise in the market.
Welcome to BT!
We welcome Bancpost’s customers and employees to Banca Transilvania. We are confident the transition will be swift, not least because both banks have Romanian DNA and histories with much in common. We also want to carry forward the strengths we have found at Bancpost, appreciated by its customers and team.
Banca Transilvania’s responsibility to customers, shareholders and the economy
We know that, as the largest financier of the national economy, of SMEs and of individuals’ plans, BT now has an ever greater responsibility to the bank’s 3 million customers, the 10,000 employees of the Banca Transilvania Financial Group, nearly 30,000 shareholders and the Romanian economy. We will also continue our involvement in the growth of Victoriabank in the Republic of Moldova and in strengthening the banking system in the neighbouring country.
Over the 25 years since BT’s story began, Banca Transilvania has reinvested in Romania — in growing its business — almost all the profit earned, thereby supporting the economy, companies, entrepreneurs and the aspirations of Romanians. In just the last 10 years, BT has lent to nearly 75,000 companies, which in turn support 1.3 million employees and their families. Also in the last 10 years, Banca Transilvania has paid more than RON 3.7 billion in taxes to the state budget and invested over RON 1.1 billion in developing its operations.
BT is among the most active supporters of social and educational projects, investing an average of RON 23 million annually in sports, communities and education. We are the number-one supporter of Romanian basketball and partners with the world number one in tennis, Simona Halep. Each year we support over 1,000 community and social responsibility projects. For its part, Bancpost was the first fully privatised bank in Romania and an active player in the community. Banca Transilvania will continue in this direction and takes on the responsibility of being a leading supporter of the development of the economy, companies and individuals by providing financing and helping people achieve their plans.
Our priorities will continue to focus on innovation and technology, to simplify and streamline how customers interact with BT.
We thank our customers for standing by us, including throughout this integration. We assure them they are working with an entrepreneurial bank that puts a positive customer experience first.
We also thank those who contributed to the success of this acquisition, integration and merger: the BT and Bancpost teams, the authorities, consultants and lawyers. They have all made this historic moment possible for Banca Transilvania and for the Romanian banking system.
Banca Transilvania has COURAGE. BT’s story goes on.”
