Banca Transilvania’s statements on Romania’s promotion to emerging-market status. A historic day for the capital market

As of today, September 21, Romania’s capital market officially moves up to emerging market status from frontier market, following a decision by the index provider FTSE Russell. The milestone was marked by an event hosted at the Bucharest Stock Exchange.

Also as of today, Banca Transilvania and Nuclearelectrica shares join the FTSE Global Equity Index Series (GEIS).

Statements by BT representatives on this occasion are as follows:

Horia Ciorcila, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Banca Transilvania:

“Twenty-three years ago, when we listed on the exchange, we were a small bank with a market capitalization of USD 10 million, and today we are pleased, from our position as a leader in the banking sector and in exchange liquidity, to contribute to Romania’s inclusion in the FTSE Russell indices. We hope our positive experience and success story will inspire and attract other companies to follow suit. From the outset, we set our main objective as supporting the Romanian economy across the board, and we are pleased to have delivered. As a universal bank, this remains our firm commitment. We are honored to be part of this historic milestone for Romania and for the capital market.”

Ömer Tetik, CEO, Banca Transilvania:

“We are glad that Romania and its capital market are playing in a new league — Secondary Emerging. For Romania, it is an opportunity to stand out in other markets as well and to make the most of its investment potential. We are honored that Banca Transilvania is one of the two companies that helped qualify Romania. BT’s inclusion in FTSE Russell’s Emerging Markets indices places even greater responsibility on us, as even more investors will be looking at Banca Transilvania. Go, Romania!”

At the event, the Banca Transilvania Financial Group was represented by Omer Tetik, CEO, Banca Transilvania, and by Daniela Secara, CEO, BT Capital Partners.

The reclassification of Romania’s capital market to Secondary Emerging status comes one year after FTSE Russell’s official announcement in September 2019.

FTSE Russell, part of London Stock Exchange Group, measures and assesses markets in more than 80 countries.
