Fitbit Pay now available in Romania for Banca Transilvania customers
Starting today, you can leave your wallet or phone at home and pay with ease using
Fitbit Charge 3 Special Edition, Fitbit Ionic or Fitbit Versa
Bucharest, December 17, 2018 - Fitbit (NYSE: FIT), the best-known global wearables brand, announces the debut of Fitbit Pay in Romania. Starting today, all Banca Transilvania customers who have the latest Fitbit Charge 3 Special Edition tracker or a Fitbit Ionic or Fitbit Versa smartwatch can add their BT Visa card details in the Fitbit app. In this way, they can pay quickly, straight from the device on their wrist, without needing their card or mobile phone.
“We are constantly looking for new ways to enhance our users’ everyday lives and we are pleased to announce, together with Banca Transilvania, the first rollout of contactless payments in Romania. The Fitbit Pay option enables us to expand our global user base while improving the experience with our products. From now on, payments will be easier and faster at merchants that accept contactless,” said Rares Florea, Regional Country Manager CEE at Fitbit.
“Romanians are increasingly open to using modern payment methods, especially when transactions are very fast. We are pleased to be able to introduce Fitbit Pay in Romania. Our customers will have a convenient, handy way to make contactless purchases on the go, and this will change their payment experience and attitude towards the technology available on the market today,” said Oana Ilas, Director of Retail Product Development and Management, Banca Transilvania.
The Fitbit Pay option can be set up easily on Fitbit Charge 3 Special Edition, Fitbit Ionic and Fitbit Versa by following a few simple steps in the Fitbit mobile app and adding the BT Visa card directly in the Fitbit Wallet section. Transactions at merchants that accept contactless payments are just as straightforward: press and hold the button on the left side of the device to activate the feature, then hold the device near the card reader until you see that the payment has been accepted.
On top of that, Fitbit Pay transactions are secure. Using an industry‑standard tokenization platform, card information is not stored or transmitted to merchants or to Fitbit.
Fitbit Pay works with more than 165 banks and card issuers in over 22 countries. More information on how to set up contactless payments is available here: community, video.
