Fitch Ratings has upgraded Banca Transilvania’s long-term rating to 'BBB-' from 'BB+', with a Stable Outlook.

The new investment grade rating reflects the improvement in the operating environment for Romanian banks, now assessed at 'bbb-', as well as Banca Transilvania’s strong position in the Romanian banking system. The decision confirms BT’s track record of prudent risk management, reflected in asset quality, robust capital indicators and the bank’s profitability. Also important to Fitch’s decision were the bank’s sound lending policy, operational efficiency, internal capital generation and stable funding profile.

A market leader in Romania with a share of more than 20% of system assets and operating as a universal bank, BT serves over 4.4 million customers. Fitch highlights that the bank’s business model ensures a diversified loan portfolio with limited exposure to more volatile sectors, which supports strong asset performance.
