BT Financial Results as at September 30, 2021
Banca Transilvania strengthens its leadership in the banking market and supports the economic recovery with loan growth above the market average
- The BT Group loan book increased by RON 2.4 billion in the third quarter, reaching RON 46.8 billion. In the first nine months, the Group’s loan portfolio rose by approximately RON 4.7 billion.
- Banca Transilvania granted more than 166,000 loans to individuals (of which almost 11,000 are mortgages) and financed over 13,700 companies.
- The bank continued to be a partner of choice in EU‑funded guarantee schemes and in the government programmes IMM Invest, Agro IMM Invest and Prima Casa.
- The bank’s customer base has increased by more than 133,000 since the start of the year, up 4% among individuals and 3% among companies.

Consolidated net profit for the BT Group is RON 1,669 million, of which RON 1,474 million is attributable to the bank and approximately RON 195 million to subsidiaries and equity investments. Total assets of the Banca Transilvania Financial Group reached RON 118 billion at the end of the third quarter of this year, up 9.7% versus the beginning of the year.
Loans at Banca Transilvania increased to RON 45 billion. In the third quarter, the pace of lending remained strong, with nearly 1,000 new retail loans per day, bringing the bank to over 1.1 million borrowers (individuals and companies). Compared with the start of the year, net loans to individuals grew by 10% (to RON 25.3 billion), while loans to legal entities increased by more than 13% (to RON 19.7 billion).
The Agribusiness Division and the Physicians Division continued to post growth well above the market. The bank is placing greater emphasis on factoring finance, with turnover up 17% in the first nine months. Over 1,200 companies use Banca Transilvania’s factoring solutions.
Customer deposits at Group level reached RON 99.4 billion (up 9.3% versus the beginning of the year), of which RON 67.8 billion are from individuals and RON 31.6 billion from companies.
The bank’s number of customers has increased by almost 4% since the beginning of the year, +4% individuals and +3% companies. The bank has approximately 3.2 million retail customers, 360,000 SME & Micro clients and over 11,000 active corporate clients.
- Focus on environmentally friendly products and sustainable solutions
In the third quarter of this year, Banca Transilvania kicked off the sustainable shift in the cards market with Visa Classic, a card made from recycled plastic with biodegradable components. It also launched the STAR Forte 100% online shopping card in the BT Pay super‑app: in about 10 minutes customers can obtain the virtual card and start using it to pay for purchases.
Over the same period, Banca Transilvania continued to focus on launching green financing products, introducing a green personal loan. In the same vein, BT Leasing (BTL) continued to encourage the shift to environmentally friendly options, with customers choosing electric or PHEV cars benefiting from better interest rates. These types of vehicles accounted for over 25% of BTL financing in the first nine months.
- Other financial details
Operational efficiency remains at a comfortable level of 47%. The non‑performing exposure (NPE) ratio, under the EBA definition, was 3.43% at 30 September 2021. The coverage of NPEs with total provisions under EBA standards is 147%. In the first nine months of 2021, the stock of provisions increased by 8.7% to RON 3,466 million, compared with the balance at the end of 2020 (RON 3,190 million).
Capital adequacy excluding 2021 profit is 21.35%, and including profit it is 22.42%. Total taxes paid by Banca Transilvania in the first nine months of the year exceed RON 570 million.
BT, over 70% Romanian shareholding
In October this year, the bank paid cash dividends from 2020 profit as well as from reserves from other years, totaling RON 500 million. Also in October this year, the bank marked 24 years on the capital market. Banca Transilvania has over 30,000 shareholders and more than 70% Romanian shareholding. Especially for shareholders and investors, the bank launched BT Research, an online centre with access to macroeconomic research reports covering developments, trends and outlooks for Romania, the Eurozone and the US.
