Pago, the fintech, will enable donations to NGOs starting in September. Call to action

Pago – the app for managing and paying utility bills, topping up prepaid cards electronically and taking out insurance – is preparing a new in‑app feature for September, designed for fee‑free donations to NGOs. The launch is supported by Banca Transilvania, the Civil Society Development Foundation and the Bucharest Community Foundation.

During this period (8 July – 4 August), a selection process is underway to choose 15 NGOs that will be featured in the app and eligible to receive donations.

The “Donate with Pago” feature

  • The option will be available both to Pago users and to anyone who wants to donate online, without needing to download the app.
  • Pago users will also be able to donate their Pago electronic points, awarded for various actions in the app. These can be converted automatically into money.
  • Donors will receive periodic updates on the progress of the projects they supported and how the funds were used.

Call to action for NGOs

  • NGOs established at least one year ago and active in the last eight months can apply online, on the Pago website by 4 August, for the chance to be among the 15 NGOs that will be featured in the app and eligible to receive donations.
  • The application window will be followed by a jury round and a final round consisting of a public vote. The jury comprises 10 people from companies and institutions.
  • The rules of the call for entries can be found here.

Pago has passed 1 million bills paid in the app and has over 100,000 active users.

The Banca Transilvania–Pago story began in October 2017, when BT Investments, a company of the BT Financial Group, became a shareholder in Timesafe, the developer of Pago. For BT, it marked the bank’s entry into FinTech. The project is being developed in partnership with Banca Transilvania and Mastercard.
