Banca Transilvania has reached 1.5 million environmentally friendly cards, one year after launching the sustainable transformation of the card market with Romania’s first eco-friendly card, BT Visa Classic. As a result, the bank has reduced the carbon footprint of cards issued and reissued in the past year by over 10 tonnes.

The transition of BT’s card portfolio to an eco-friendly alternative is being carried out in stages.

What defines a BT eco-friendly card:

• It is made from recycled plastic and includes biodegradable elements;
• It is also available in digital form in the bank’s most-used app, BT Pay;
• It has an extended validity of 5 years;
• The paper used for envelopes and customer communications comes from responsible sources (FSC - Forest Stewardship Council).

Banca Transilvania encourages contactless payments, e-commerce and the use of digital cards through apps and payment accessories.
