Banca Transilvania on Black Friday: over 12 million transactions and a peak of nearly 1,200 transactions per second

Banca Transilvania set a new record, handling over 12 million transactions in a single day — on Black Friday, November 6, 2026. The volume, processed via cards, apps, e-commerce, POS terminals and ATMs, shows BT’s infrastructure can support millions of payments.

The very high volume of purchases in a short window led this year to new highs for Banca Transilvania:

  • 12 million transactions in a single day, +10% versus Black Friday 2025, and a record of nearly 1,200 transactions per second;
  • Over 600,000 transactions per hour for 13 consecutive hours, between 7:00 and 20:00;
  • Nearly 1 million transactions in the golden hour of the day, between 8:00 and 9:00;
  • +19% in the value of installment purchases with Star cards, compared with Black Friday 2025;
  • +19% in the value of payments using the Pay with BT Pay option, versus Black Friday 2025;
  • +18% in the total value of payments made with Star points at POS, versus Black Friday 2025.

Black Friday also connected Romanians in the diaspora with those in Romania

The largest purchases made with BT cards in Romania were in the automotive and jewelry categories. Romanians living abroad were also drawn to offers at home, buying online mainly home goods, appliances and building materials.

Most purchases came from customers in the 35-44 and 25-34 age groups.

Banca Transilvania, infrastructure for millions of payments

BT is Romania’s leading payments processor, with infrastructure built for scale, speed and continuity. This allows the bank to handle very large volumes and to absorb exceptional transaction peaks, such as on Black Friday.

The bank has built an ecosystem that connects cards, the Star program, the BT Pay app, the online payment processing platform BTeComm, as well as its network of merchant partners, POS terminals and ATMs.

Through this infrastructure, Banca Transilvania connects millions of customers and keeps the flow of payments in the economy moving every day, supporting the development of both online and in-store commerce, and the digitization of Romania’s payments ecosystem.
