Twenty-five years ago, without fanfare but with plenty of courage and capital of 2 million US dollars, 46 entrepreneurs laid the foundations of one of the most successful stories of Romanian capital — Banca Transilvania, today the largest financial group in Romania, with over 31,000 shareholders.

With entrepreneurship in our DNA, and through hard work, enthusiasm and investments in people, technology and infrastructure, BT has grown from a team of 13 to a financial group with over 10,000 employees and 500 branches, across more than 180 locations in three countries. From the first customer to more than 3 million customers, 700,000 of whom are borrowers. From the first transaction to more than 2 million transactions processed every day through the bank. From our first entrepreneur client to building the largest ecosystem supporting SMEs in Romania. And at critical turning points, the bank reinvented itself, adapted and kept going.

Growth — the word that best describes BT’s evolution: year after year we have grown as a bank, in the number of customers we finance, in the number of employees, and above all in the unique capabilities we bring to financing the national economy, and today we have shareholders’ equity of 1.5 billion euros. We set out to become, and have succeeded in becoming, one of the pillars supporting Romania’s development, and we know our responsibility to depositors and to society.

We finance hospitals, factories, schools, public and private universities, dams and hydropower plants, motorways and veterinary practices — and hundreds of thousands of people. We back just as many of Romanians’ plans and dreams. We are the State’s largest institutional financier through taxes and government securities, and of Romanian business. We do this with our capital and thanks to the capabilities built over these 25 years, here at home.

This is just the beginning. The story goes on.
