Banca Transilvania is supporting the Dr. Leventer Foundation for Skin Health in a campaign to raise awareness of the dangers of skin cancer. The study results from a nationwide perception survey launched by the foundation were released on Thursday, May 26, at a press conference held in Bucharest.

According to the survey, many Romanians have heard of the condition, but only half know there are several forms of it, and very few can identify them.

“The cases we encounter in hospitals and clinics—both I and my fellow dermatologists—have shown how much need there still is for education and information about skin cancer in Romania. We will support patients who lack the financial resources for surgery by performing 5 pro bono operations a year, with support from Banca Transilvania and Blade and Light International,” said Dr. Mihaela Leventer, founder of the Dr. Leventer Foundation for Skin Health and Senior Dermatologist.

“Beyond our investments in developing the medical sector to support entrepreneurial doctors in Romania, we’re pleased to contribute to studies like this that help educate the public about risks we all face. We encourage closer relationships between the public and physicians, and among physicians in different specialties, with the goal of reminding everyone that prevention is better than cure,” said Ionela Misculescu, Development Director, Division for Doctors, Banca Transilvania.

Globally, skin cancer affects one in three people diagnosed with cancer.

The results are based on a quantitative study carried out in Romania by Millward Brown on a sample of over 1,000 people aged 18 to 65.
