On the 150th anniversary of the founding of Romania’s Royal House, Banca Transilvania and production company Chainsaw Film Production are releasing The King’s War, the most comprehensive documentary about King Michael I and his decisive intervention in shortening the Second World War. It will air on Tuesday, May 10, at 23:15, on ProTV.

The documentary is based on His Majesty’s most extensive interview, given exclusively to John M. Florescu in 2003. Research took 13 years, with filming in Paris, Berlin, New York, Moscow and Bucharest.

“Banca Transilvania is honored to join a project of major interest to all Romanians, the most comprehensive historical documentary about King Michael, launched to coincide with the 150th anniversary of Romania’s Royal House. We hope this documentary will help reaffirm Romania’s place in history,” said Horia Ciorcila, Chairman of the Board, Banca Transilvania.

“The King’s War project was a natural step. I am the son of a Romanian historian, Radu Florescu, and my grandfather was a diplomat in London until the Antonescu regime came to power. From the outset I understood the major importance His Majesty’s interview holds for everyone who seeks to set the historical record straight, and I am honored to have had the privilege of coordinating this project and to be able to present it today to audiences in Romania. Alongside my team, I had two outstanding partners on this project who immediately grasped the importance of the endeavor: Banca Transilvania, known for supporting Romanian values, and broadcaster ProTV, recognized for media innovation,” said John Florescu, the film’s producer.

As the documentary shows, through his decisions King Michael I helped shorten the Second World War by approximately 200 days.
