Banca Transilvania, represented by Cosmin Călin, Executive Director Large Corporate, took part in the “Top 1,000 Largest Companies in Romania. The Power of Example” conference, organised by Ziarul Financiar, held in Bucharest on April 11 this year.

BT’s messages were as follows:

• We started the business 25 years ago and today we are Romania’s largest bank. Some clients have been with us since the very beginning — companies that are now in the top 1,000 or even the top 100 by revenue.
• Other companies have grown alongside us. A business is a bet that matches entrepreneurial spirit with capital. Without a bank, a business cannot grow.
• Growth combines the entrepreneur’s flair for backing the business with the ability to convince a banker to invest in it.
• We aim to be a platform that helps other companies scale. Dedeman is a case that should be studied in every leading university. We and other bankers supported this business. A small part of Dedeman’s success is down to us.

A few figures that define the companies in the top 1,000 in Romania, according to Ziarul Financiar’s analysis:

• They generate 47% of the economy’s turnover.
• They generate 36% of Romanian companies’ net profit.
• 24% of employees in companies have an employment contract with one of the top 1,000 firms.
• They recorded revenues of RON 670 billion (EUR 144 billion) in 2017, up 12% from the previous year.
• More than 700 of the top 1,000 companies come from two major sectors: manufacturing (374 companies) and trade (344 firms).
