Banca Transilvania set an all-time Black Friday record on November 10 this year, with almost 8 million transactions in a single day across BT channels — cards, POS terminals, ATMs, etc. That is up 28% versus Black Friday 2022 and double a standard day this year.
Other all-time highs recorded by the bank:
- Over 600,000 transactions per hour across all BT channels, a record between 8:00 and 9:00 AM;
- Over 500,000 transactions per hour for nine consecutive hours, between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM;
- 260 transactions per second;
- Over 1 million transactions were processed via the bank’s e-commerce solution for merchant clients;
- The number of shopping cards issued instantly via BT Pay — as well as in-app credit limit increases on cards — tripled versus a standard day.
Banca Transilvania is Romania’s leading payments processor, by business scale and the volume of operations processed across all channels. These all-time highs were made possible by the bank’s ecosystem, which ranges from the Star program and the BT Pay super-app, to the largest card base in the market, its e-commerce processing platform (BTeComm), which provides advanced online card payment solutions, and BT’s merchant acceptance network, which comprises over 122,000 POS terminals. Through the Star program — which includes the bank’s shopping cards and almost 25,000 partner locations — customers can shop in interest-free instalments or using Star points.
Black Friday 2023 — key figures:
- An average of over 340,000 transactions per hour processed through BT, +25% versus Black Friday 2022;
- Greater appetite among BT customers for installment purchases via the Star program: +25% by volume (Black Friday 2023 vs. 2022);
- The value of transactions made with BT Pay at merchants’ POS terminals: +30% versus Black Friday 2022;
- Over half of purchases with BT cards were made online;
- The largest shopping basket paid with a BT card was EUR 60,000 (RON equivalent) for a jewellery accessory;
- The average Black Friday basket paid via BT was up 50% versus a normal day, to RON 173.
With almost 6 million cards issued, Banca Transilvania is the market leader.
