Banca Transilvania and 5 to go support the UberGREEN pilot project, a ride-sharing service with 100% electric cars
Banca Transilvania and 5 to go are joining the UberGREEN electric mobility pilot, a 100% electric, zero-emission ridesharing service. The two companies are partially covering the lease costs of the vehicles.
In March this year, Bucharest became the first city in Central and Eastern Europe with a fully electric ridesharing service. In Europe, Uber offers electric mobility options in London, Paris, Madrid, Amsterdam, Lisbon, Porto, Zurich and Munich. Since March, more than 10,000 people have used UberGREEN electric cars, covering nearly 72,000 km in total. Had this distance not been driven with electric cars, it would have generated 8.5 tonnes of carbon dioxide.
The pilot includes 20 Renault Zoe cars with the new Z.E. 40 battery, which provides a range of 300 km on a single charge in urban and nearby areas.
Statements:
- Omer Tetik, CEO, Banca Transilvania: “We are pleased to join an entrepreneurial initiative that cares about the life and future of the community we live in. We want Banca Transilvania to be a good corporate citizen — and, above all, a good neighbor — which is why social involvement is a goal in itself for us. Through our collaboration with UberGREEN and 5 to go, we hope electric mobility will become accessible to as many people as possible, so that Bucharest becomes less polluted and easier to get around.”
- Radu Savopol, co-founder, 5 to go: “We chose to support the UberGREEN project because clean energy is an area of interest for 5 to go. In fact, we will soon have a charging station for electric vehicles at the 5 to go Drive Thru. 5 to go is focused on social responsibility projects — it is always on our agenda, and we have had such initiatives underway since our first year in business.”
- Nicoleta Schroeder, General Manager, Uber Romania: “Since February, when we launched UberGREEN, we have been working hard to develop the electric service in Bucharest and we are glad to have Banca Transilvania and 5 to go alongside us. We believe the future of transport is electric, shared and autonomous; we want more and more people to have access to 100% electric mobility solutions that are convenient and just a tap away, and this partnership is a step toward that vision.”
How to request an UberGREEN and what it costs:
- Open the Uber app and request UberGREEN
- Pricing is similar to UberSELECT: 1.65 lei base fare / 0.28 lei per minute / 1.65 lei per kilometer. The minimum fare is 12 lei.
Uber was founded in 2009 in the United States to solve a simple problem — ordering a car at the touch of a button. Its mission is to make urban transport accessible everywhere, for everyone. After 8 years of operations and more than 5 billion trips, Uber is taking on an even bigger challenge: reducing pollution and congestion by getting more people into fewer cars. Since February 2015, Uber has been in Romania, in Bucharest, and since 2016 also in Cluj-Napoca, Brasov and Timisoara.
5 to go is the largest coffee chain in Romania and Eastern Europe. It is also one of the strongest Romanian brands in the HoReCa industry, with 85 coffee shops and points of sale in Romania. Recently, 5 to go launched its first Drive Thru — the only one on DN1. The company also stands out for the friendly interior design of its coffee shops, catering to different audiences — pupils, students, corporate employees, etc.
