Adela Armenean and the Chemistry of Banking

Today we’d like you to meet Adela Armenean from Cluj who, as she puts it, has been an RM for Micro (that is, an SME relationship manager) since September 2018. But her story as one of #OameniidelaBanca began in 2013, when she applied for a job with us after a friend nudged her to do it. It’s great to have friends like that!

Of course, Adela’s first reaction was, “Me, at a bank?” That’s because she had actually studied chemistry and chemical engineering and worked in the field until she went on maternity leave. Even so, she gave this mysterious new path life put in front of her a chance and sent us her resume. She liked it—and in the meantime she also earned a degree in accounting and business administration.

After “game on,” if we can call it that, Adela placed her pawn on the “teller” square. From there, her skill—and the dice she rolled—helped her move ahead to “account administrator for non-cash operations,” “deputy branch manager,” and, not least, into the role she holds today. As an RM for Micro, she plays an important part in guiding an entrepreneur toward success, which is a process in its own right.

Where does it all start? Well:

“Normally, a client chooses BT first to open an account. Those clients are automatically assigned to RMs by the system. We, the RMs, check the lists of clients allocated to us and, first of all, we call them to welcome them to Banca Transilvania, tell them we’ll be their point of contact, that they can save our phone number and reach out whenever they need to.” After some time getting to know each other, Adela says the requests start coming in and it’s time to decide together what solutions fit their needs: “We see whether they need a product, (...) how we can further bring down costs on the transactions side, we come back with offers.” For Adela, a successful day is one when she’s managed to respond to every request—at the very least!

Typically, her workday starts at 8:30 a.m., after she drops her girls off at school, but to stay on schedule she leaves Floresti at 7:00. Once she gets to the office, coffee and her notebook are the first things she reaches for, then she goes through the files one by one and makes a call list for that day: “We call them, set up meetings, go out to see them and talk. Before I meet a client, I like to be prepared—read up on them, know what they do, take a quick look at the numbers.”

For a good outcome and a happy, satisfied client, teamwork is essential: “As RMs, we keep in touch with the client, decide together on a product—what’s best for them—and then, when we move into analysis, if it’s an investment loan or a more complex loan, that’s where the analyst steps in.”

After a full day, Adela heads home to spend the rest of it with her daughters, Diana and Iulia, her husband, Adrian, and the family rabbit, Bobi.

Fun fact: Adela is surrounded on all sides by a whole crew of Adrians, because her brother and her twin sister are named Adrian and Adriana. You read that right—her twin sister. Not even Adela and Adriana’s mother knew she was going to have two girls. Imagine the surprise when she found out she’d get to enjoy two children instead of one!

Dear Adela, we’re glad you chose this path that, in one way or another, brought you to us, becoming one of the #OameniidelaBanca we’re proud of!
