BT simplifies online account opening for Romanians living abroad
  • Romanians living abroad can become Banca Transilvania customers, including by using the passport for Romanian citizens domiciled abroad.

  • Until now, opening an account was only possible by identifying with a Romanian identity card.

  • New customers benefit from BT’s welcome offer.

Banca Transilvania is expanding options for Romanians living abroad who want to become BT customers; they can now also use the passport for Romanian citizens domiciled abroad to open accounts 100% online, in various currencies, via the BT Pay app.

New customers automatically and at no charge receive the Diaspora subscription, which provides solutions and benefits for easy money management, both in their country of residence and in Romania, covering accounts and cards, payments, foreign exchange and cash withdrawals at ATMs abroad.

When opening the account, customers get instant in-app access to the card in digital euro format, BT Mastercard Direct, and can also issue, directly from the app, the virtual card in lei. Details about the Diaspora subscription and about solutions for Romanians everywhere are available on the BT for the Diaspora website.

For Romanians living abroad, Romania remains part of everyday life, which is why we constantly look at what we can do to make access to BT services simpler and faster. BT Pay has become their main gateway to our bank’s solutions. With the feature announced today, we are giving them a more accessible way to become our customers and to manage, directly from the app, the money and projects they have in their country of residence and in Romania.
