This year’s Bank Friday shows that Romanians prefer to shop online and pay in installments — and that they are willing to spend more.

How Black Friday 2022 compared with a standard day:

• Online card payments processed by BT were ten times higher by volume;
• Online installment payments through Banca Transilvania’s Star program were up more than sevenfold;
• Almost 50% of all purchases made with BT cards on November 11 this year (Black Friday) were online;
• Almost 70% of all purchases at BT merchants were online;
• Average value per transaction: +36% versus a standard day.

Banca Transilvania is the market leader, with more than 5 million cards issued. BT has developed its own e-commerce processing platform (BTeComm), providing advanced solutions for online card payments. The Star program, which includes the shopping credit cards, has reached more than 20,000 partner locations that offer interest-free installments or Star points for every purchase with the credit cards.
