School and university students in Iași get discounts on public transport fares when paying via the 24pay app

Banca Transilvania, PTP Online and the Iasi Public Transport Company are introducing a mobile phone payment option for school pupils and students in Iasi to pay for local public transport via the 24pay app. In addition, tickets and passes purchased this way are available at special prices, with 50% or 100% discounts.

The launch follows the strong uptake already recorded by 24pay in Iasi, where, since August to date, more than 70,000 tickets and passes have been purchased through the app. Through this initiative, the partners are broadening access to mobile payments by offering discounts to the more than 100,000 school pupils and students studying in Iasi. Payments for tickets or passes are processed via the card payment solution provided by Banca Transilvania.

BT and PTP Online — the company that developed the 24pay app and is part of the Ecco Group Development group — have set out to work together to develop online services in public transport, an area still under-served in Romania. The service has been launched in the following cities, alongside Iasi: Arad, Brasov, Ramnicu Valcea, Timisoara and Sibiu.

Details on using 24pay:

  • The app can be downloaded free of charge from Google Play or the App Store.
  • A Visa or Mastercard issued by any bank must be enrolled in 24pay.
  • To benefit from the discount, students and school pupils must also have an ElStudis discount card, which can be obtained from their educational institution or from the Iasi Public Transport Company.
  • By scanning the QR code on the ElStudis card with the 24pay app, pupils and students go straight to the ticket or pass selection page, so there is no need to scan the QR code displayed in stations or on board vehicles, as other users do.

Banca Transilvania has been part of the Iasi community since 1997. At county level, it serves almost 100,000 customers, more than 10,000 of them companies. It has 13 branches in Iasi, Pascani, Targu Frumos and Harlau, and a team of 170 employees.
