Banca Transilvania’s Offer for Bancpost Customers with Swiss Franc–Denominated Loans Secured by Real Estate

Banca Transilvania, the majority shareholder of Bancpost, is launching an offer for Bancpost customers who have Swiss franc (CHF) loans secured by real estate and wish to convert them into lei or euros.

Details of the offer will be presented to customers by teams comprising both Bancpost and BT employees, at the Bancpost branches included in the campaign.

Offer details:

  • Campaign period: July 2–August 31 this year.
  • The reduction is 18% and is applied to the current outstanding balance, net of any past-due obligations and any amounts already calculated as owed by the customer but not yet due.
  • CHF-to-lei or CHF-to-euro conversion will be made at the NBR exchange rate on the date the documentation is signed before the notary.
  • Notarial fees related to the conversion are borne by Bancpost. If the legal status of the property has changed since the mortgage was created, or if special powers of attorney and/or inheritance and/or partition proceedings are required, the costs are borne by the customers.

Offer process:

  • Some 2,250 eligible Bancpost customers will be contacted by phone and invited to a meeting at one of the Bancpost branches included in the campaign.
  • At the meeting at Bancpost with the joint BT–Bancpost team, indicative figures for the offer will be presented, namely: the total reduction; the new loan balance after the reduction is applied; the new monthly payment; and the steps a Bancpost customer needs to follow to become a Banca Transilvania customer.
  • Customers have at least 15 days to decide whether to accept the conversion. The appointment for the actual signing of the documents is scheduled after the offer is accepted.
  • Together with the conversion, the same notarized contract will also effect the change of lender, from Bancpost to Banca Transilvania.

Banca Transilvania sought to address, as part of the Bancpost acquisition, the situation of customers with Swiss franc loans that had been assigned; however, BT’s offers were declined by the assignee. For this reason, the offer does not extend to those who previously had loans granted by Bancpost but whose loans were assigned by Bancpost to other entities before Banca Transilvania acquired the majority shareholding in Bancpost from Eurobank.
