The number of transactions processed across Banca Transilvania’s channels — with BT cards and at the bank’s POS terminals — reached an all-time high on Black Friday 2024, on November 8, with nearly 10 million transactions in a day, up 23% versus Black Friday 2023. BT is the leading payments processor in Romania, owing to the scale of its business and the volume of operations carried through all its channels.

Between 8:00 and 9:00 another record was set, with over 730,000 transactions/hour and nearly 400 transactions/second. There were 13 consecutive hours with more than 500,000 transactions per hour.

Preference for online purchases in installments also increased: +24% versus Black Friday 2023, totaling over 41 million lei. The largest shopping basket paid with a BT card was close to 70,000 lei, for IT equipment.

As for total online transaction volumes, they rose by more than a third on Black Friday 2024 compared with 2023: +28% in volumes at Banca Transilvania merchants and +47% in volumes transacted with BT cards.

New this year, the option Pay with BT Pay on the 6,500 websites that have so far implemented Banca Transilvania’s payment processing solution enabled customers to make quick payments. The bank will significantly expand this payment option in the period ahead.

Banca Transilvania has a full ecosystem built around cards, which includes the STAR program, the BT Pay app, the eCommerce processing platform (BTeComm), an extensive network of POS terminals and ATMs, as well as its 6.6 million cards, of which approximately 4.2 million are digital.
