How to Avoid Phishing

A few useful tips for our customers to help you avoid phishing attempts and protect your personal data. We would also like to remind you that Banca Transilvania has not asked and will not ask for confidential information via email or SMS.

What is phishing?

Phishing is an illegal method of obtaining confidential information, typically through online channels. It usually comes as an email in which the recipient is asked to enter confidential/personal data or is told that the data are needed due to a technical error that led to the loss of the original information. These messages are crafted to look as credible as possible, appearing to come from legitimate companies.

What we recommend:

  • do not click links in unsolicited emails or emails from unknown senders, especially those that appear to come from our bank;
  • do not open or download attachments received by email that were not requested or that come from unknown senders, especially those that appear to be sent by our bank;
  • make sure your laptop or computer has antivirus and antispyware software installed, and that these are updated regularly.

What to do if you receive an email that "seemed" to be from BT

  • If you clicked a suspicious link received by email and entered your details, please contact us as soon as possible on 0264308028 or, if it’s more convenient, stop by any of our branches.
  • If you received such an email, please forward it to contact@btrl.ro; it helps us a lot to monitor this type of activity.
