Banca Transilvania’s figures show that BT Pay has helped shape new habits this year — contactless purchases at merchants, money transfers and donations, all by phone.

• The number of payments by phone tripled in 2020 compared with 2019, reaching 4 million purchases per month by phone by year-end.
  
  
• An increasing number of money transfers are made through the app: their number quadrupled in 2020 compared with 2019, reaching 1.3 million per month by year-end.
  
  
• Over 100,000 cards were first used in digital form via BT Pay, before those customers received the physical card. Customers can open an account online and add the card digitally in the app before they receive it physically. 
  
  
• Over 12,000 donations were made through BT Pay over eight months to 12 foundations and organizations that Banca Transilvania works with. BT launched the Donations by phone option in April this year to support efforts against the pandemic, giving customers the most convenient way to donate, by phone. The most recent social cause Banca Transilvania joined — this time together with the Simona Halep Foundation — was Help the children most affected by the pandemic, initiated by SOS Satele Copiilor Romania. BT and the foundation donated EUR 50,000, and the bank matched every donation made through BT Pay and on the bank’s website for two weeks in December this year, bringing the total to over EUR 130,000, which will help 450 children in need have decent living conditions.

Over 1 million people use BT Pay for everyday banking — from contactless payments at merchants, money transfers, card management and confirming online purchases to withdrawing cash from ATMs without needing the physical card.
