More than 75% of purchase transactions by Banca Transilvania customers in Romania are contactless transactions made by card, phone or BT Pay wearables. The volume of contactless payments made by BT customers has doubled compared with the same period last year, a trend supported by new ways to pay such as the BT Pay wallet, Apple Pay, and smartwatches — Fitbit Pay and Garmin Pay.

“We are encouraged by our customers’ openness to new banking solutions. The numbers show that banking — especially digital — is increasingly part of our lives. A banking app on your phone, for example, completely changes the shopping or money transfer experience. In the first half of the year our focus was on adding new features to BT Pay, and since June BT customers with an iPhone or Apple Watch can also make contactless payments straight from their phone, as our bank began offering this service with the launch of Apple Pay in Romania.” - says Oana Ilaş, Executive Director, Retail Product Development and Management, BT.

Thanks to Banca Transilvania’s investments in digital solutions, customers have a range of options to manage their cards: BT24 Internet Banking & Mobile Banking, BT Pay, BT Visual Help or with the help of the Livia chatbot, via Facebook or Skype.

BT Pay, 2,000 downloads/day

• The number of phone payments via BT Pay doubled in the first half of the year.
• Over 300,000 customers have BT Pay on their phone, twice as many as in December 2018.
• +170% is the increase in the number of transfers made from BT Pay to BT Pay users based on the phone number in the contact list, and by IBAN to customers of other banks (June this year vs December 2018).
• The app, launched in January 2018 on both Android and iOS, allows BT customers to add any card issued by the bank.
• Paying by phone is available for Banca Transilvania customers on both operating systems: since June this year, iPhone users can also pay by phone by adding digital cards to Apple Pay.
• In addition to paying at merchants, BT Pay offers the following features: money transfers; 24/7 management of money and cards (check balances, view transaction history, set limits, lock/unlock cards, automatic payment of minimum amounts due on credit cards, etc.).

Banca Transilvania is the only bank in Romania that offers, through the BT Pay collection, a range of contactless payment alternatives in the form of wearables: watch, bracelet, sticker, the BT Pay app, Garmin Pay, Fitbit Pay and BT Pay keyboard/extension.
